March of Dimes Fund Raising
Every year I join millions of other caring individuals to help
fund raise money for the March of Dimes. I've been doing this
since 2005. The reason I do this is because in 2004 I lost
identical twin daughters due to their premature birth. My
sweet angels came much too soon at only 23 and a half weeks.
No one knows why they came early and even though we tried
very hard to stop them Kyra was born at 11:57 pm on Saturday
September 25th and her sister Jayde came at 12:03 am on
Sunday September 26th. Because of their early arrival and the
policies of the hospital that delivered them they only survived
for 7 and a half hours. Long enough to meet both their
grandmothers, their paternal grandfather and an aunt. They
were about the size of beanie babies, and weighed about a
pound, or 7 - 10 geocoins. When I found out all the research
that the March of Dimes does towards preventing premature
births it felt like I finally had a reason why I lost my girls, to help
others not experience what we did. So I do what I can each year
to raise money for their research. This year (2008) we were
asked to be the ambassador family in our area. What an
incredible honor that was, and I felt that I had to live up to it.
With the generous help from the Geocoin, Pathtag and
Geocaching Community I was able to raise over $1900! It's
going to be a tough number to beat next year. So I devised a
new strategy!
This year I designed a new pathtag to sell as a fund raiser, I
also have some very special Geocoins to sell! With the designs
that I do I am asking the mints to make special 1 (or 2) of a kind
coins that can be auctioned off. So far the response has been
very good. All that I ask is that the coins be produced in a
different color set, lighter or pastel tones if at all possible. I ask
that no more than 1 (or 2) of this special edition be created in
order to keep it collectible, which in turn will raise the most
money for this amazing cause.
I'm also accepting any other coin to be auctioned as well, they
don't have to be anything special, but it's preferred that they be
highly sought after again to raise the most funds.
